The Hai Phong government held a ceremony on March 11 to kick off construction of the Tan Vu-Hung Dao-Bui Vien section of its second ring road to enhance the port city’s road capacity.

The ground-breaking ceremony for Hai Phong's second ring road.

Hai Phong is northern Vietnam’s gateway to the sea and all major ports in the city are connected with National Highways 5 and 10 as well as inter-provincial roads through two main axes Nguyen Truong To-Bui Vien and Ton Duc Thang-Nguyen Van Linh-Nguyen Binh Khiem.

However, the transport system linking ports remains strained, especially as berths 3, 4, 5 and 6 of Lach Huyen Port will be put into service in the coming time.

The Tan Vu-Hung Dao-Bui Vien section of Ring Road No. 2 spans 11 kilometres and a cost of 7 trillion VND (274.8 million USD).

Once completed, the road will enhance the transport capacity, improve connectivity between ports and northern provinces, expand the urban space and ensure traffic safety.

At the ground-breaking ceremony, Hai Phong Chairman Nguyen Van Tung asked the contractors to complete the road in May 2027 while ensuring the project’s quality and labour safety.

The city also requested the districts where the road traverses to complete land clearance before the end of June 2025.
